These braided-looking pieces are constructed in variants on foxtail, a chainmail weave typically done with welded metal rings, bent with pliers into shape. Rubber rings lend themselves to the procedure dramatically well-- particularly, when linked in double foxtail, they naturally fall into shape (rubber foxtail and "flat" double foxtail are FE original inventions!).
The braid is tight, but the small spaces lower the straps' air resistance the same as holes in a paddle. Yowie.

This slapper is done in flat double-foxtail chainmail (an FE original invention!). Double foxtail involves two independent interlocking braids of single foxtail; the flatness comes from using smaller rings for one set. The rings are 3/16" thick, our jewelry section size "XL."
This is tremendously thuddy; nevertheless, it is nothing like stingless. A foot long, 1.5" wide, 0.5" thick. Hanging loop is a 2" welded steel ring. Heavy! Gorgeous and alarming.
Once in a while, someone will prefer a handshake grip to the paddle grip of the flat slapper. In response, we've invented a slapper where the the handle part is oriented 90° off from the tail bit. (Though neither is very floppy, the twisted one is ever-so-slightly less so.)

These are the flat one-wides in sizes XL ($30), L ($10), M ($6). The ring on M is a black keychain split ring.

Three rows of double foxtail, rolled into a handle at one end. It has the this-year's-model rounded end, and one row goes up, turns into the braidey hanging loop, and comes back down to become a second row. This may be the most solid/unfloppy of the designs. And it's biiiiig... This item is sold out, but I do have this in stock: this big log of a thing that is just like this but the handle never unrolls into paddle - it stays a slightly mushy cylinder all the way to the end - about 9.5" long plus loop by 1 5/8" thick - photos when available. Click this item's link to order that.

Very loose and floppy, relatively. Handle pretty crushable, unreinforced. You can roll them up in your pocket pretty well. All these designs have sort of a natural frequency, more like a flogger than a paddle-- this model perhaps most of all.
The prototype (below) is similar, but has the last-year's-model uneven end.

The new model!
(There's a bit of a range in length available. The shorter ones are a little less floppy, less insistent on being tossed at their natural frequency, more paddley, easier on the wrist. BTW, the floppiness of these also increases slightly with ambient temperature. Let us know what sounds good to you, and we'll try to find one for you in the right part of the range.)
Spectacular! 3"-wide strap end is stingy with an surprising additional sense of thud (well, a compelling sense of impact). The rings are 3/32" thick, our jewelry foxtail size "M." This strap has great range-- very tunable. With single-foxtail hanging-strap.
